  • Close up of pylons.

The Energy Transformed Flagship's research will accelerate the development and uptake of low emission distributed energy systems in Australia’s energy industry.

  • Holden's ECOmmodore in front of Uluru

CSIRO exploits the most advanced concepts in magnetic materials, electromagnetics applied magnetics and drives. We are reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by designing and developing energy-efficient electric machines and drives.

  • Electricity infrastructure power lines.

We use ESM to determine the impact of potential future events, policies and technology breakthroughs on the uptake of new technologies in electricity generation and road transport.

  • Image of solar panels at the CSIRO's National Solar Energy Centre in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

The National Solar Energy Centre (NSEC) comprises a high concentration tower solar array that can generate 500 kW of energy, and a low concentration linear array for solar thermal energy as shown in this video. (5:00)

  • Wind turbine.

This video raises issues surrounding low emission distributed generation systems and how they will challenge our ideas about energy supply and where we generate power. (0:30)
